Tania String (UNC-Chapel Hill, Professor of Art)
“The Nude in Art”
Join us for a lunchtime talk by Dr. Tania String (UNC, Art History) on one of the most enduring subjects in the history of art: the nude. As String shares examples of Renaissance art that shape our conception of the nude—from Michelangelo’s David to Botticelli’s Birth of Venus—she will offer insights on why the naked body has been both problematic and inspirational for artists and audiences across history. This topic, which Dr. String is currently teaching a course on, is the impetus for an installation of 16th-century art in the Ackland’s Study Gallery.
19 November, 12:00–1:00 PM - Register here!
