Theresa Gloster, Caldwell Family Artist-in-Residence
For Black vernacular artist Theresa Gloster, “memory” is more than simple reminiscing. Instead, it’s a destination, a place to step into and then to inhabit. Her paintings–recalling her childhood in the segregated South–palpably pull her into her past, inviting her to lose herself in the fullness of relived experience. In this conversation moderated by Professor Glenn Hinson (American Studies, UNC-Chapel Hill), Ms. Gloster will both talk about her journey as a mystically “called” self-taught artist, and discuss works that she’s painted more than once–either as separate paintings, or as pieces that she’s added to as time has progressed.
This is a special edition of our popular Art for Lunch program–please feel free to bring your own bag lunch. The talk is free, but space is limited, so please RSVP to reserve your spot.
