Membership FAQ
Is my membership tax deductible?
Basic Membership – including Individual, Household, Patron, and Benefactor – are 100% tax deductible.
For Director’s Circle Memberships, the amount of tax deductibility of each membership level depends on the fair market value of the benefits received. See each level for the exact amount that is tax deductible.
If you would like your membership gift to be fully tax deductible, you can always waive benefits.
Is my membership current?
Memberships are on a rolling one-year basis and will expire at the end of the membership month. For example, if you join in June 2024, your membership will expire June 30, 2025. Expiration dates are located on your membership card. If you cannot locate your card or expiration date, please contact acklandmembership@unc.edu for assistance.
When will I receive my membership card?
Membership cards will be mailed to you. It can take up to two weeks to receive your cards.
How do I update my contact information?
Please contact acklandmembership@unc.edu to update your contact information, including email address, mailing address, cardholder names, birthdates, and communication preferences.
Are memberships transferrable or refundable?
Museum memberships are a tax-deductible gift; therefore, they are not refundable or transferrable.
How do I cancel or renew my membership?
You’ll receive communications from the Ackland when it is time to renew your membership. You may renew online, mail a check, or renew in person at the Museum Store. To cancel your membership, please contact acklandmembership@unc.edu.
Please note that memberships are a tax-deductible gift, meaning they are not refundable or transferable.
Do you have free parking?
Parking validation for up to two hours is available for members at the Benefactor level and above in the Carolina Square Parking Garage, located at 123 W. Franklin Street, Chapel Hill. Please visit the front desk during your visit for more information on how to redeem. If you are interested in upgrading your membership to receive additional benefits, please call 919-843-5637 for assistance. More information about parking can be found here.
Are there specific groups who receive additional discounts, like artists or educators?
The Ackland Art Museum invites K-12 educators, artists, non-UNC students, UNC-Chapel Hill faculty and staff members to join the museum and receive 20% off the cost of their Basic Membership.
Basic Membership levels include Individual/Household, Patron, and Benefactor. Discounts are available by phone or in person at the Museum store with proof of eligibility. Please contact acklandmembership@unc.edu for more information.
UNC Student Memberships are FREE! Available for all current UNC-Chapel Hill students. Please sign up here.
Can I gift a membership?
To gift a membership, visit our Ackland Membership Giving Page and select which level of membership you wish to gift. At the bottom of the webpage, please check mark the box beside “This is a gift membership” and complete the necessary information for who the gifted membership is for.
Do members receive a discount at the Museum Store?
Yes! All members always receive a 10% discount at the Museum Store with their current membership. Members at the Patron level or above receive a one-time 20% coupon in addition to the ongoing 10% discount.
Please note the 20% coupon and the 10% discount for members at the Patron level and above cannot be used at the same time.
How does my membership support the Ackland Art Museum?
By being an Ackland member, you are helping the Ackland remain free and accessible to all and supporting the Ackland’s integral role as one of North Carolina’s most important cultural resources. Membership is an ideal way to support exhibitions, programs, and events and strengthens the local arts community.
